Occupation(s), Career Details
Leaving So Pas High, my mom and I moved to Laguna Beach where I went to work at Security Pacific Bank as a teller/bookkeeper, and realized I hated banking. I took that same feeling for office work through a number of jobs in all sorts of businesses, including a cotton brokerage; a bankruptcy law firm; a retail store chain where I worked for the children's wear buyer... a truly horrible woman; Bullock's Pasadena (where in an exciting change of pace, I demonstrated Haggarty's Silver Polish); a gun catalog business, Golden State Arms, where Ambassador College is now; and eventually found my way into aerospace!
Wow! Loved aerospace! Loaded with young engineers. Met my husband, John, at Electro-Optical Systems in Pasadena, married him, and left the work world behind. Concentrated on raising four delightful children and a bunch of German Shepherd dogs.
The next thing in my career was being co-owner, along with John of a great country music radio station in Yucca Valley, with coverage into Palm Springs and the entire high desert. KROR-FM, the Mighty Roar of The Desert. I was the music director, wrote 99% of the ads we used on air, personnel director and on-air person whenever whoever was scheduled to work was snowed in, developed car trouble or was too hungover to make it in. John, electrical engineer with career roots in radio, built the station himself and we sounded awesome. Radio station ownership, by the way, entitles you to unstop the toilets when they are plugged up, get the women who come in after hours to "play" with the on-air guys out the door, and watch employees walk away with everything that wasn't glued down.
We owned KROR until 1994 when we sold it and I retired again, planning to work on my tan and my garden.
I started doing some speaking, a little PR for various organizations and churches, I wrote the Holiday Homes Tour book for the Auxiliary of Methodist Hospital for ten years, and eventually wrote a really nifty Christian musical, "Hands!" The Musical, which you can actually see a little bit of further down the page. My partner is a brilliant musician/composer who writes the music to my book and lyrics and we're scheduled to do our second musical: "Star of Wonder" A Christmas musical where everyone finds love and someone finds their way back to God... in December at a church in North Hollywood.
We did "Star of Wonder" in December of 2009, it was a huge success and we are currently in the process of editing our DVD. In process now, "The Gallery," a new musical about intriguing people in an art gallery setting with great music!
Creative writing and producing beats the pants off being anyone's assistant!
