In Memory

Michael DiBenedetto - Class Of 1959

It is with great sadness that our classmate, Mike DiBenedetto passed away July 30, 2012.  When we last spoke a few weeks ago, he wanted to make sure that I let you know how special you all were in his life.  His fight against cancer was heroic but at the end of the day he just couldn't beat this insidious disease.

Michael Emedio DiBenedetto, 71, of Ventura, California, passed away July 30, 2012, from cancer, surrounded by his loving family.  The son of Nicolangelo and Concetta DiBenedetto, Michael was born on April 10, 1941, in Los Angeles.

Michael graduated from Holy Family School and South Pasadena High School and California State University, Los Angeles.  He started his career in real estate appraisal at Glendale Federal Savings and moved on to the Los Angeles County Appraiser's Office.  Relocating to Ventura County, he was an independent appraiser until retiring in 2007.

In 1983 Michael married Martine Govin and they raised two sons, Jonathan and Nicolas DiBenedetto.  Michael is survived by his sons; his brother Nicholas (Cindy) DiBenedetto (SPHS '63) of Huntington Beach; sisters, Adelina DiBenedetto of San Marcos, Louise (Ron) Moore (SPHS '64) of Santa Barbara, and Cristine (Steve Jackson) Clark (SPHS '66) of Vista, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.

After many years as friends and partners, Michael took Norrene Walton as his beloved bride at their home in Ventura in February 2012, bringing together two loving families of sons, daughters, and granddaughters.  He felt that the greatest gift of his life was his family.  Raised in the wonderful environment of South Pasadena, Michael formed friendships that have lasted a lifetime.  Michael was the consummate host to anyone who came to visit and was an invaluable counselor to his family and his many friends.  He had a life-long love for travel whether it was up the coast or around the world.

Michael inspired those around him with unrelenting optimism and good humor in good times and bad.  His positive, upbeat personality and love of life will continue to touch those who knew him.
