Jane Condon (Kay)

Jane Condon Kay

July 29, 1933 - July 28, 2017

Dorothy 'Jane' Kay passed away peacefully at the age of 83. She was born in Glendale to Elliott and Dorothy Jefferds Condon and attend South Pasadena High School, graduating in 1951. She then attended the University of Arizona for a few years before becoming a flight attendant for United Airlines.

Base in Chicago for United Airlines, she met her husband Ernest Kay on a blind date. They hit it off and soon moved to Los Angeles where they were married in November 1955. After a few years of living in Los Angeles, they moved to Pacific Beach in San Diego. From there, they moved up the hill to Clairemont and have never left. Jane loved the beach and took her children there as often as possible. She also had an affinity for traveling to Mexico. Estero Beach was a favorite spot. They took family trips during Christmas time to Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlan, pulling a trailer behind the family car enjoying many adventures along the way.

After raising her children, Jane worked as a secretary for a real estate and property management company. She eventually got her Real Estate license. She also worked for many years as a receptionist at a local law firm. Volunteering was an important part of her life. She was a water safety instructor for the YMCA backyard swim program. She was also head scorekeeper for Balboa Little League. She and Ernie were active in the Thalians dance group in the 70s and 80s. She volunteered for the Rape Crisis hotline and Battered Women hotline for several years and recently served at Clipped Wings, an organization for retired airline flight attendants. She joined Pacific Beach Presbyterian Church in the early 1980s. Her faith and church became an important part of her life. Jane served in many leadership roles over the years, most recently as Elder Commissioner to the Presbytery. Jane loved meeting new people wherever she went. She could talk to a complete stranger and come back with their life story and would do anything to help someone in need.

Jane is survived by her husband Ernie, sons Greg and Steven, daughter-in-law Stacey; and three grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will leave a lasting impression upon everyone she met.
