Anita Hockersmith (Bell)

Anita Hockersmith Bell

January 14, 1944 - November 12, 2022

Born in Washington state, to Wendell and Dorothy Hockersmith, Anita was the youngest of two children. The family moved to South Pasadena when Anita and her brother, Tom '59, were young and lived on Floral Park Terrace. Anita started kindergarten at Lincoln and attended South Pas schools through high school graduation.

Anita was a member of Girl Scout Troop 294 for ten years and also a part of Job's Daughters while in high school. After high school, she attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where she met her future husband, Charlie Bell. Before marrying, she shared an apartment (the Exotic Isle in Alhambra!) with Dolores Hoegeman Brown '61 and Halle Ellison Kistenmacher '61.

Anita and Charlie married in Pasadena in 1965. They had three children:  Jeffrey, Christopher, and Stephanie. The family first lived in the San Diego area and raised avocados. Later on, they raised pears in Clear Lake, California. During these years, Charlie also practiced law. At the time of her death, Anita was living in Colorado with her daughter. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and brother.

Anita had beautiful red hair and was a wonderful, artistic friend who will always be missed and remembered fondly.

Halle Ellison Kistenmacher '61

I remember Anita as a lovely, shy person with light red hair, who always had a beautiful smile.
