Barbara Mae Coleman (Clark) - Class Of 1943

Barbara Mae Coleman (Clark)

Barbara Mae Coleman was born in Atascadero, California on June 29, 1925. Barbara passed away on September 8, 2021 in Orangevale, California.

Barbara and her older sister Madalynne '41, spent the first few years of their lives on their parent's ranch east of Paso Robles. The family moved to the Pasadena area about 1928. Barbara entered El Centro School in the third grade after the family moved to South Pasadena in 1934. She went to South Pasadena schools and graduated in 1943.

Barbara got a job in Torrance right out of high school. On one of the trips to the beach she took with her family, she met Bryan Leland Clark, an officer in the US Air Force. Later, at the Nellis Air Force base in Ls Vegas, she pinned his wings on his uniform. They were married in San Gabriel at the Church of Our Savior on January 9, 1945. Barbara and Bryan began their married life in the military in Florida. Bryan soon got orders to go overseas, and Barbara moved back to South Pasadena, and lived with her mother and sister.

Bryan served in the Air Force for over 20 years. They were stationed in many places, including England, Washington state, Texas, Japan, and Washington, DC in the Pentagon. During their Texas assignment, they had their sons Gary in 1952 and Greg in 1954. After Bryan's retirement, they moved to Atascadero. Bryan decided to go into business, and at one time, they had five Swiss Colony franchises in California.

Barbara and Bryan moved to the Sacramento area in the early 1980s. They still had a Swiss Colony in Citrus Heights. Both sons worked in the business.

Bryan passed away in 2006, and Barbara moved to Citrus Heights, where Gary and Greg lived nearby. Barbara developed Alzheimer's disease and lived her last years with her son Gary. Gary discovered he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and passed away the day after his mother.

Barbara leaves her son Greg, daughter-in-law Jan, four grandchildren; and her sister, Madalynne Coleman Wardlow '41.
