Bob was a very good friend. We really had some good times. He had a strange habit of pulling, stretching, and twirling his chewing gum around his finger. He had a Austin Healy sports car that he gave me a ride in. Knowing he wasn't well and a short time to live, it was quite a ride on the Arroyo Seco roads. One time when he was at my father's house in the pool my dad being a doctor noticed a spot on his neck and said to me it doesn't look good. As it turned out it was cancer.  It was sad to hear.

Bob came to SPHS from Florence HS in LA and had a somewhat difficult time fititng in here but quickly made many many friends.  He took me there to visit one time and that was an eye opening experience for someone raised in So. Pas.  Bob used to pick up a classmate every morning who lived on Monterey Rd. and was in a wheel chair and and take him to school.   I only remember the boy's name as Jimmy.  Not something to many would have even considered at the time.  Bob knew more people in his short life than most of us will proably every meet. He and I were to meet in England a few months before he came back to the US and subsequently passed away.  He called me from Europe and said "Don't bother comming, I've got to come home" !  Wouldn't say why.  God Bless him.  He was a great person and the first one I ever knew to pass away from that dreaded desease.
