Joanne Brandenburger (Surasky) - Class Of 1946

Joanne Brandenburger (Surasky)

Joanne Brandenburger Surasky  '46  died at home in the company of her family on February 25, 2005 in Sebastopol, California of cancer.  She was 76.

Joanne, known to her friends as "Brandy," always reminisced about her years in South Pasadena where her family moved from Salt Lake City, and where she stayed until she was a young adult.  After attending Chouinard School of Art, followed by Bennington College in Vermont, she enjoyed a productive career working for NW Ayer as an Art Director in New York City, then in Philadelphia.  After 30 years in Philadelphia, where she was married and raised two strong daughters, the family moved to California where she maintained her creative lifestyle for the last twenty years.  Creativity permeated her life through her marvelous painting, cooking, gardening, and writing.  She traveled the world, even in her last year of life, completed writing her first novel, embarked on writing a second, and never stopped painting.  We adore her and we will miss her.  She is survived by her husband of fifty years, her two daughters and their spouses, two grandchildren, and lest we forget, three cats.
