Cornelia Gates Roys

November 17, 1897 - May 23, 1994

 

The first child of Don Salmon and Rose Jackson Gates, she grew up in South Pasadena, California. Graduated from Occidental with a degree in Philosophy and later graduated from librarian school. Married Walter Moss Roys in Riverside, California in 1932. Together they had one daughter, Janet.

After many years of living in Desert Center, California where Walter worked as the Superintendent for the Metropolitan Water District until his retirement, Cornelia and Walter left the desert for Corona del Mar where they lived for 40 years.

Together they traveled the world visiting every continent on earth except Antartica. Cornelia loved to read, cook, and was a master gardener. She was a devoted family genealogist and kept track of the Gates family records and memorabilia.

Cornelia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother to Ann and Jay, and great-grandmother to Michele and Kaitlin, and lived a life well lived in her 96 years.
