Helen Tapper died April 4, 1986 in Laguna Hills following a long illness. Miss Tapper was the daughter of the late George and Mazie Potter Tapper and sister of the late Catherine Tapper Garrett (SPHS '22).

She was born June 12, 1902 in Riverside, Illinois and was raised in South Pasadena. Miss Tapper was educated in South Pasadena Schools and graduated from Mills College in 1924. She also did graduate work at the University of Southern California and received a Masters Degree in Theater Arts from Yale University in 1958. Miss Tapper lived in Los Angeles for many years, teaching Art and Theater Arts in the Los Angeles Schools System, and before retirement in 1962, serving as a teacher-consultant to the Los Angeles Board of Education. She also taught at the University of Hawaii.

In 1964 she moved to Laguna Hills. Miss Tapper was a member of DAR, National Teacher's Association and the California Teacher's Association.
