Gladys Parker Myers

Gladys Parker Myers, 94, of the Lone Tree Health Care Center, died January 23, 1999, at the care center after a short illness. Mrs Myers was born September 20, 1904, in Webb, Iowa, to George and Caroline (Mackenzie) Parker. She graduated from South Pasadena High School in California in 1922 and then from Iowa State College in 1928. She married Harold 'Hank' Myers on October 13, 1928, in Webb. He died in 1997.

Gladys and Hank lived in Rochelle, Illinois from 1928 to 1932 and again from 1949 to 1971. They lived in DeKalb, Illinois from 1932 to 1949, Horseshoe Bend, Arizona, from 1971 to 1986, in Sedalia, Missouri from 1986 to 1995, and in Lone Tree from 1996 to present. She received the University of Iowa Mother of the Year award in 1951 and the Rochelle Kiwanis Club's Man of the Year award in 1963.

Gladys was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi social sorority, the Mortar Board Honorary Society and three other home economics honorary societies. She served as a member of the school board in DeKalb from 1942 to 1949 and was a member of the Congregational Church of DeKalb and the Presbyterian churches of Rochelle and Sedalia.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Buxton of Iowa City; a son, George Myers and his wife, Anne, of Sarasota, Florida; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
