Helen Virginia Wig (Elgin) - Class Of 1928

Helen Wig Elgin

September 4, 1911 - November 1, 2007

 Helen Wig Elgin, passed away in her home after a prolonged illness. She was born Helen Virginia Wig in  Washington, D.C. to Rudolf James Wig and Anna May Bartlett Wig. She was 96. During the First World War she moved with her family to San Diego and soon after to South Pasadena at which time she began a life- long and active association with the Pasadena Presbyterian Church. She graduated in the class of 1928 from South Pasadena High School and in 1933 from Pomona College in Claremont, California.

She was happily married for 56 years to the late James Henry Elgin Jr. They raised five children together in Altadena; David, who passed away in 1962, Elizabeth Elgin of Flagstaff, Arizona, Robert Elgin of St. Louis, Missouri, Bruce Elgin of Altadena, and Mary Jane Elgin, also of Altadena. She was an accomplished harpist and performed with the Pasadena Symphony, and was an active member of The Tuesday Musicale, and the St. Cecila Club through her 80's. She also was a member of the Women's City Club and a PEO sister. She is remembered for the Art Shows which she organized at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church during the 80's and 90's and for 'Music At Noon,' a continuing weekly community music program given at the church which was one of her favorite inspirations. She was well known for her beautiful flower arrangements, which she gathered weekly from her large garden, her smile, and her acts of kindness to all around her. She will be greatly missed by the surviving members of her large family, her sister, Winnifred Wig Smith (SPHS '34), her four children, her eleven grandchildren, and her four great-grandchildren.
