Robert Patchen Miller Jr

Robert Miller, Jr died December 1, 2003 at his home in Pasadena after a long illness.  He was 86.  Born October 13, 1917, in Los Angeles to Robert Patchen Miller and Helen Candler Miller, he was raised in San Gabriel.  He attended San Marino Grammar School, South Pasadena High School, the University of California at Berkeley and UCLA.

During World War II he worked at Lockheed Aircraft, and earned his wings as a Naval Aviator in 1945.  In 1946 he married Louisa Macalester Nevins of Pasadena and moved to Burnet, Texas where he was President of Southwestern Graphite Co.  He was elected Mayor of Burnet, served as a vestryman and senior warden of Epiphany Episcopal Church and as a Trustee of St. Stephens School in Austin.

In 1965 the family returned to Southern California where Mr. Miller joined SWECO, Inc.  He retired as Chairman of the Board in 1979.  He served his community in many capacities; as a board member of Harvey Mudd College, Westridge School, Hollenbeck Home, Pasadena Beautiful, All Saints Children's Center, Huntington Senior Care Network, Hospice of Pasadena, the Natural History Museum Alliance, and as vestryman and senior warden of All Saints Episcopal Church.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife Louisa, his brother Richard Clarke Miller of Ventura; his sister Jane Miller Wright of Long Beach; his six children, Louisa Macalester Miller of Pasadena, Helen Candler Miller of Burnet, Texas, Robert Patchen Miller, III of Pasadena, Richard Nevins Miller of Putnam, Connecticut, Joseph Edward Tilt Miller of Long Beach, Katharine Miller Moyer of Berkeley, and ten grandchildren.
