Arleen Shirley Johnson (Spence)

Arleen Johnson Spence longtime resident of South Pasadena, passed away May 10, 2003 after a brief illness.

Born in Los Angeles, Arleen moved to South Pasadena as a young girl, attended South Pasadena schools and was a member of the 1940 graduating class.

In April 1941, Arleen married her classmate Willis Spence at Forest Lawn's Wee Kirk of the Heather and moved to the Spence family home on Glendon Way while her husband served in the Pacific during the war.  Arleen and Bill remained in South Pasadena, turning the family home into their own in the early fifties, where they raised their children Susan and Gordon.  After Bill's retirement from the City of South Pasadena, the couple moved and spent their retirement years at Lake Gregory, near Crestline where Arleen remained after Bill's death in 1996.

Arleen will be remembered for her love of family, friends, animals, and traveling.  She is survived by her daughter, Susan Spence Langdon '60 of Sierra Madre, grandchildren Jeffrey (Elise) Langdon of Glendora, Elicia (Brian) Moore of Monrovia, and David (Sheryl) Langdon of Bedord, Indiana; great-grandchildren Ashley, Taylor, Jared, and Dakota Langdon, and Kayla Makaele and Autumn Moore; nephews Michael Spence '66 of South Pasadena, Clayton Spence of Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Tim Spence of Eldorado Hills, California.
