Helen Jane Kovacevich (Ruble)

Helen Jane Ruble, 78, formerly of Pacific Grove, California, passed away on October 9, 2006, with her family at her side. She was born on June 17, 1928 in Long Beach, California. Helen was preceded in death by her father, Vido Kovacevich; her mother, Ruth Lewis; and her sisters, Dorothy McGarry and Vida Glush.  She is survived by her sister, Gloria Muci (Franco) of Florida; her sons, Mark Ruble of Claremont and Michael Ruble of Sacramento; her daughters, Tina Heacox (Glenn) of Sacramento, Shelly Malicek of Pacific Grove, Jan Stanley (Steve) of Lodi, and Tabitha Franks (Larry) of Covina; her cousin, Winifred English of Homeland, and her brothers-in-law, Marty McGarry (Margie) of Austin, Texas and Don Ruble (Bonnie) of Pacific Grove. She was a very proud grandma to her 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Her family loved her dearly and will miss her, and her friends and acquaintances will miss her ready smile and the much-anticipated deliveries of her delicious brownies.

Helen moved to the Monterey Peninsula to attend the Douglas School for Girls in Pebble Beach, and remained on the Peninsula and raised her six children there. She began working at the Monterey Herald newspaper in 1965 in an entry-level position and, after making several close friends along the way, she retired nearly 20 years later as the Manager of the Display Advertising Department. Her strength and her efforts to succeed are an inspiration to her children to this day. Upon retirement, she returned to Southern California to be near her children and grandchildren.
