Eric Wyman Smith

Eric Wyman Smith passed away on October 3, 2000 in Anchorage Alaska. His illness of three years was caused by a brain tumor. Eric was born June 4 1939. The son of Lyle and Marian Smith of Ventura, Eric attended local schools until the family moved to South Pasadena where he graduated from South Pasadena High School. Eric graduated from Stanford University with a degree in mechanical engineering and was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. After graduation he became an officer in the U.S. Navy and was posted in the Philippines where he met his future wife Anne Mattson of Pennsylvania. She was one of the 11 schoolteachers arriving in the Philippines. After the tour of duty in the Philippines Eric was posted at El Toro Marine Base; subsequently he attended UCLA where he received a master's degree in business administration and later a law degree. Anne and Eric were married and had one son Kent; and grandson Benjamin.

Eric and Anne moved to Anchorage Alaska and had lived there for 20 years. Their activities in that city have been numerous. Eric with his ready smile and his motto "keep your friendships green" had many friends and enjoyed working with the Rotary Club and Sojourners (a Masonic group). He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and helped needy people.

In addition to his mother father son and grandson Eric leaves his sister Dana; brother Mark; and several nieces and nephews.
