Charles 'Chuck' Ashcroft

Charles Frederick Ashcroft, 88, passed away on July 18, 2013 in Akron, Ohio.  Born December 16, 1924 in South Pasadena, California, he was preceded in death by parents, Charles Harold and Miriam Burgess Ashcroft. The big band leader who married the opera singer recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary with all of their children and grandchildren.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Eileen, and children, Ann (Charles) Anderson, Rick (Corrine) Ashcroft, Robert (Kristina) Ashcroft, Kathleen Ashcroft, Carol McIntosh, and Christine Ashcroft. Additionally, he is survived by grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth, Molly, Tess, Nathan, Will, Chuck, Ben, Ketzalli, and great-grandchild, Henry. He is also survived by his sister Dolly Ashcroft McDonald (SPHS '44), and known as Uncle Chuck to many nieces and nephews.

Chuck attended the University of Southern California and was a veteran of World War II, serving as an Air Force photographer in the 456th Bomb Group. After the war he played the string bass and led the "Chuck Croft Band". His professional career with the Cabot Corporation began in 1958 and he retired as national accounts manager in 1988. After retirement, Chuck became president of the Akron SCORE chapter, poll worker for Summit County Precinct 8H, greeter for Hummel Funeral Homes and transportation "specialist" for Ganley Mercedes-Benz. His greatest joy was his family. He loved playing golf and fishing, but more importantly, he loved all of the friendships that he made throughout his life.
