Mary Jane Bragg

Mary Jane Bragg was born November 2, 1918 in Missoula, Montana.  She died January 7, 2007 in Fullerton, California.  She earned her BA in 1939 at Occidental College; MA 1941 Columbia University; MLS 1966 UCLA.

Mary Jane was employed in early years at the Henry E. Huntington Library and Art Gallery as an editor in the publications department.  Later she was associate librarian at Cal State Fullerton where she had special interest in building the reference collection.  From 1945 - 1958 she worked with the American Friends Service Committee, including relief work in Oberhausen and Munich, Germany after World War II.

Mary Jane was the niece of Jeannette Rankin, the first US Congresswoman (Montana) and was influenced by her aunt's thinking and life's lessons.  She is survived by a brother, Kenneth Rankin Bragg (SPHS '35); a niece Rebecca Lee Bragg; and a nephew, Kenneth Rankin Bragg, Jr.  Those that knew her regarded her as both a consummate professional and a most gracious individual.
