Roger Brandt - Class Of 1937

Roger Brandt

Roger Brandt, 88, died peacefuflly at home on Monday, December 8, 2008.  He was the husband of the late Barbara (French) Brandt who died in 2007.

Roger was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada on March 29, 1920, the son of Harold and Martha (Bacon) Brandt.  He lived a life of love and purpose.  As a graduate of Caltech in 1940, he used his engineering degree to solve problems and meeting people throughout the world.  Many friends were so close as to be considered family.

In the late 60s, Roger helped design today's toothpaste tube for which he was awarded several world patents.  After retiring from American Can Company, he volunteered in the schools in and around St. Charles, Illinois.  In 1998 he moved with his wife Barbara to Westford, Massachusetts where he jumped into volunteering at Lowell General Hospital.  At the hospital his mission was to get each person to smile.

Mr. Brandt was a consummate teacher.  Even in the last year, while he was physically limited, he taught those around him lessons of living and loving.  He is survived by his children, Bin, Betsy, and Randy; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Joules, Peter, and Kailee.
