Marcia Christine 'Chris' Cass (Craggs) - Class Of 1951

Marcia Christine 'Chris' Cass (Craggs)

Marcia Christine 'Chris' Cass Craggs, born April 12, 1934, grew up in South Pasadena in the Monterey Hills with her sister Cookie (SPHS '49) and parents William Cass (SPHS '17) and Ethlyn Jackson Cass (SPHS '25).  The girls had horses from a very young age and Chris was proud to have ridden her horse in more than one New Year's Day parade in Pasadena. Chris attended UC Davis where she met her future husband, Les Craggs. Their first home was in Costa Mesa where their two boys, Larry and Ron were born.

Seeking a more placid environment for their family, Les and Chris moved to Placerville in El Dorado County in 1962. In 1969 they moved to Nevada City in Nevada County, California. They raised their boys in this idealic part of the world. Les passed away in 1989 with Chris maintaining their home until her passing, August 23, 2013, due to cancer. She was 79 years old. Chris was predeceased by her husband Les; her parents and sister Cookie.  She is survived by her sons, Larry and Ron and their families.

Chris was quite conservative with a strong independent, almost pioneering spirit, way of life. Many of her close friends were fellow equestrians. Chris was a fine lady, sharp of wit, with many talents. I had the privilege of growing up next door to the Cass family and their daughters Cookie and Chris.
