Larue Leonard (Maynard) - Class Of 1934

Larue Leonard Maynard, 88, passed away peacefully February 3, 2005 at Friends Homes West in Greensboro.

Born in Richmond, Virginia, to Charles M. and Larue Outhwaite Leonard, she traveled with her family to Delaware, Wisconsin, and California.  "Ruie" met and married Russ in 1936 and celebrated 66 years of wedded life raising a family as a Navy wife.

In retirement, she continued to enjoy travel throughout the world.  Often, her sons, Cdr. Michael Maynard, USN (ret.) and Dr. David Maynard, MD., and their wives joined their parents on these national and international junkets for special family reunions.

"Ruie" was a volunteer teacher for many years at the Elvirita Lewis Foundation Child Care Center in Santa Cruz, California, a Gray Bear Gleaner, and a cancer survivor.  An avid bridge player, she enjoyed and played well at duplicate bridge tourneys.  She also painted both in watercolors and oils.

She is survived by her sons and their wives, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
