Margaret Ann O'Connell (Leach)

Margaret Ann O'Connell was born September 15, 1923 in Pasadena, California, and passed away on Maui, September 11, 2013. Margaret grew up in South Pasadena and graduated from South Pasadena-San Marino High School in 1941. She attended Pasadena Junior College, Mills College, and USC, pursuing an education in art. In 1946 she married Gordon Daniells and they had four sons, Brian, Mark, Steven, and Matthew.

The family lived on Guam, Palau, and Maui where she taught art in public schools off and on. Margaret and Gordon eventually divorced and Margaret and the boys moved to Soquel, California so she could care for her mother. There she met Willis Leach and they married, moving to Maui where Margaret established herself as a watercolor artist and was well known on Maui and Kauai. Her art was displayed and sold in several galleries on the islands.

Margaret was predeceased by her sister Esther 'Terry' O'Connell '42 and is survived by her husband Willis; her four sons; and several grandchildren.

Margaret Leach, 89, of Kula, Maui, a schoolteacher and artist, died at home. She was born in Pasadena, California.

She is survived by husband Willis E; sons Brian, Mark, Steve, and Matthew Daniells; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
