Anne Reed (Miles) - Class Of 1951

Anne Reed (Miles)

Anne Reed Miles died peacefully at Scottsdale Osborn Hospital in Scottsdale, Arizona on March 25, 2012 surrounded by family, at the age of 79. Anne was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and graduated from South Pasadena High School. She married Frank Miles at the age of 19 in August 1952 at San Marino Presbyterian Church.

Anne always loved being around water. As a child she learned to swim in Lake Macatawa in Michigan and where she later performed in water skiing shows. After marrying Frank and moving to Sacramento, they bought a motorboat and swam and water skied on Folsum Lake. After living in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, the Miles family settled in Scottsdale in 1966, a pool was built at the home and the children boat received continued use on all the Salt River Lakes and Lake Powell, Anne's favorite. She taught many, many children (and adults) how to swim.

Anne was a dedicated and loving wife and mother and volunteered her time and energy to schools, First Christian Church, and Scottsdale Osborn Hospital. She loved to travel, visiting Europe five times and traveling in a motor home throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico with Frank. She also loved puzzles and games and was an accomplished bridge player. Anne is preceded in death by her father Robert Reed, her mother Mary Flood Reed, and her sister Nancy Reed Knecht (SPHS '49). Anne is survived by her husband of 59 years Frank, daughter Sue, son Bob and his wife Moira, two grandchildren, Christy and Kathy, and three great-grandchildren, Anne, Tyler, and Gavin.
