Stuart Gillette Ruth

Stuart Gillette Ruth, 88, of Royal Oaks Manor, Bradbury, California, died November 23, 2011, after a short illness.  Born in Alhambra, he was raised in San Marino.  He attended Sewanee:  the University of the South, and then served in the U.S. Army in World War II.  He graduated from Brown University in 1948.  He then attended the General Theological Seminary in New York City and graduated from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley.

In 1950, Stuart married Olivia Heminway and was ordained an Episcopal priest.  He served in the priesthood and later as a teacher of religious studies.  Having raised his children on the East Coast, he and Olivia returned to Southern California in 1976.

Stuart is survived by his three daughters, Elizabeth, Mary, and Catherine; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
