***************************************************************************************

Richard was a dear friend to me and to my classmate Jim Beebe '64 for more than 40 years. He introduced Jim to his wife. I still remember Richard helping me repair my dishwasher when my daughter was fondly known as 'Ruggers' since she was quite a rug rat at the time.

Richard eventually moved back to the Northwest and worked for Boeing for many years. He was always generous with his friends, including my wife Rosemary and me. Later in his life he experienced some serious medical problems and carefully planned where his stuff was to go. He always referred to his Porsche 911 as 'Rosemary's car' particularly when facing a daunting medical procedure. He did will her the car which she enjoys and for which she thanks our dear friend every day, although both of us would much rather enjoy his company than the admittedly very nice car. Its license is our tribute to him - THX RVM.

We miss him.

Bill Sampson '64

Saw Rich at the last reunion. He didn't look well. He lived near Canadian border and hated the border patrol flying over his home all night since 9/11. I had not seen him since graduation. We were both on  Mr. Priest's swim team together. Had a lot of fun. R.I.P. old friend.
