Donald E Vance - Class Of 1945

Donald E Vance

Donald 'Gus' Vance (December 27, 1927 - June 20, 2015) passed away at home in LaQuinta, California after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. The family would like to thank everyone who supported Gus during his illness. Whether you are an old friend or a new acquaintance, you have been one of his angels during this time. He leaves behind his #1 Angel, his wife Margery; daughters Aileen (Larry) Thibault and Joanie Fogel; son Brad (Leigh); niece Kim Fieldhouse; nine grandchildren who all called him Gus, one great-granddaughter who had just met him, and his beloved dog, Gigi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald W and Opal Vance, his sister, Audria Vance Beedle (SPHS '41), and one cousin, Wally Vance.

Gus was happy and proud to have worked in the printing business for most of his adult life and amazed us all by continuing to work at the Dot Printers in Irvine until late this past spring, when be became too ill to do so. He loved tennis and kept playing when he could barely walk, surpassing all expectations. He was also very proud of his many years of sobriety and was a steady contributor to the recovery community of the desert.
