Townley Richards 'Dick' Bale - Class Of 1948

Townley Richards 'Dick' Bale

July 5, 1930 - May 7, 2014  Dick grew up body surfing the beaches of southern California and spent summers at Camp Meehan on Spirit Lake, inspiring his love of the Cascades and the Northwest.

He began college years at Oregon State University and finished as an SAE and letterman pole vaulter at the University of Washington in 1952 with a degree in business administration. There he met and fell in love with Marilyn Lockwood; they married the following year. As they raised their family in Seattle, Dick worked for over four decades in the investment business, mentoring younger brokers along the way. He enjoyed and excelled at many pursuits:  squash, tennis, climbing, skiing (which he taught for 18 years), golf, French language, and growing roses.  He loved and appreciated the home and garden that he and Marilyn created in Seattle (and Maui) - it brought him peace.

Dick will be greatly missed by his wife, brother Bob and sister Nancy; children Dave, Melinda, and Lisa; and his five grandchildren.
