Joan Maxwell (Reinhardt)

Joan Maxwell Reinhardt, resident of San Francisco and Geyserville, California died on August 23, 2009 after a brief battle with metastatic breast cancer.  She was comforted to the end by her devoted husband Richard, to whom she was married for 58 years, and surrounded by loving family and friends.

Born in 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Joan (often called Jo) moved to Southern California with her family in the 1930s and attended South Pasadena/San Marino High School.  She graduated from Stanford University in 1950, where she met her husband and made many lifelong friends.

Joan was actively involved in many organizations, including the Stanford Women's Club, Parachutists Book Club, and Omega investment study group.  She was the author of numerous short personal memoirs that she published in collections with a group of other women.  In the 1970s, she ran her own business preparing readymade meals.  During her marriage, she lived in Princeton, New Jersey, Athens, Istanbul, Lausanne, Southern France, Mexico, and London, and she and Dick traveled all over the world together.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons Kurt, Paul, and Andy; daughters-in-law Meg (Jackson), Annette (Vernon), and Sarah Wingfield; and three grandchildren, Stephanie, Max, and Jackson.
