Dorothy Bertoli (Blanche)

Dorothy Ann Bertoli Blanche, 89, passed away July 6, 2015 in Greenwich, Connecticut. She was born in Highland Park, Illinois on February 4, 1926 to Leonard and Mary Bertoli. Dorothy graduated from the University of Cincinnati and received a Masters from the University of Buffalo. She was a teacher at Greenwich High School for over 20 years.

Dorothy had been a resident of Greenwich since 1960 and a long-term member of the Belle Haven Club, a lifetime member of the League of Women Voters, and a past president of the Greenwich League. She was the League specialist on campaign finance reform, and was revered by both sides of the aisle. She was a strong voice for social justice, an avid volunteer and a director of New Covenant House (the soup kitchen) in Stamford, Connecticut. Further, she was a strong supporter of civil rights, equal opportunities for all, and ending the war in Vietnam. She was a devout Catholic and served as a reader at St Catherine of Siena Church. She was a strong woman and a wonderful mother.

She is predeceased by her husband of over 55 years, Eugene Blanche (SPHS '43) and daughter Elizabeth Roth. She is survived by daughter Susan Bannon of Seattle, Washington, son Jeffrey Blanche of Stamford; and six grandsons.
