Bruce K McElderry - Class Of 1944

Bruce Kendrick McElderry (July 22, 1925 - February 23, 2016) was the youngest of six children born to Chester and Mary McElderry in Los Angeles, California. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia Muriel, and three children:  Christine (Roland) Blantz, Bruce Jr (Kathleen), and Patricia (Jack) Mateer; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Bruce joined the US Navy and served in World War II in the Pacific theatre. He received 14 commendations and the Presidential Citation of Honor for participating in many major naval battles including the battle of Coral Sea.

Bruce attended Farragut College in the Northwest after the war and continued his education at USC. He worked for McDonald Douglas Aircraft for 35 years, retiring as the Facility Engineer for their Santa Monica plant. Bruce was an avid sailor, and long-time member, and past Commodore of the South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club.

Bruce was known for his great sense of humor, devotion to God and country, and most of all his family.
