Alice Gates

July 16, 1902 - December 23, 1986

The third child of Don Salmon and Rose Jackson Gates, Alice grew up in South Pasadena, California where she attended school. A graduate of Occidental College, she also earned a teaching certificate which became her life-long work.

Alice specialized in reading and speech and became a specialized teacher for the Arcadia school district. She taught for 35 years and retired to Corona del Mar. Even in retirement, she continued to teach reading skills and tutor students in her home.

Alice never married but devoted herself to helping others and became a philanthropist and was a generous benefactor to many causes.

She was predecerased by sister Velma Gates Cass '18 and survived by sister Cornelia Gates Roys '17.
