Barbara Currie (Ellis) - Class Of 1943

Barbara Currie (Ellis)

Barbara Currie Ellis, 93, died January 5, 2019, at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico with friends and family at her side. She was born October 27, 1925 in Seattle, Washington, daughter of William and Violet Currie. Barbara grew up in Southern California and attended South Pasadena High School. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Arizona where she met and married Benton Shannon. Later she married Robert Ellis and began her real estate career in South Pasadena. Her first day on the job, she sold a house, a sign that Barbara and real estate were going to be a good match!

In 1964, Barbara and her family moved to Albuquerque where she continued her career with H Parnegg Reality. Her professional style, intellect, grace and sense of humor were legendary, and she became the epitome of a successful woman in real estate. Many of the original professional clients to whom she sold houses became close personal friends for years to come. After over 30 years in the business, Barbara semi-retired to enjoy time with her close friend and companion, Bill Briggs. Barbara was a patron of the arts, a formidable bridge and tennis player, and an accomplished horseback rider in her youth. She was vivacious, elegant, and stylish. She prided herself in having great relationships with her family and friends and was always available to solve problems.

She is survived by her children, Derek Shannon and wife Gail of Denver, Colorado and Wendy Shannon and husband Rick Higgins of Albuquerque, brother Ron Currie (SPHS '50) and wife Vicki of San Diego; three grandsons, two step-grandsons, and six great grandchildren.
