H Thomas 'Tom' Sawyer

Tom Sawyer

March 16, 1931 - June 14, 2022

Born in South Pasadena to Homer and Elizabeth Sawyer, Tom was movie star handsome with just as much charisma. He was tall and lanky but could hold his own in all sports. He was an excellent athlete and loved to play basketball.

Early on Tom found his passion for all things mechanical: cars, trucks, and all the toys and gadgets of the construction industry. He continued the family's entrepreneurial spirit and created several businesses in his working career. His first job after high school was in the field which became a lifetime passion, construction. Not much later he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Connelly (SPHS '50) and together had three children; Linda, Pamela, and Michael. Tom was a dedicated father and loved spending time with all the family members including mother, Betty Crossley Sawyer (SPHS '29), sister Sharon, and brother, Dick. Tom loved to ride his Sachs 125 off-road motorcycle in the desert with friends and family, he was a great horseshoe thrower and loved to entertain family and friends!

Tom was happily married to Carrie Doyle for 61 years and together spent much of retirement on the golf course with the remaining time working in his tool room. He had many, many friends and loved to socialize with them often. One of his last activities was to survey and probably inventory his tools (his toys) and hold hands with his best friend, Carrie. Tom was blessed with six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His incredible attitude charmed everyone he met, God bless Tom Sawyer!
