John Douglas "Doug" Arterberry, M.D '46 of Rancho Mirage, California, died on December 29, 2007, at the age of 78.  Born in Los Angeles on January 12, 1929, he was a long-time resident of South Pasadena and San Marino. 

Doug earned degrees from Pomona College, the University of Southern California, and the University of Chicago.  After a 33-year career at Los Angeles County hospitals and Northridge Hospital, he continued to practice medicine in Palm Springs and Yucca Valley until his retirement in 2005.  In addition, he was a pioneer in the development of paramedic and haz-mat services in Los Angeles County.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; his brother, William (SPHS 1948); three children, Martha, Susan, and John; two stepchildren, Brian and Jason; and five grandchildren.
