Virginia Soper (Sterling)

Virginia Sterling, 78, died peacefully in her sleep on, July 30, 2002. Born in Rock Hill, Connecticut, on January 1, 1924, Virginia "Jinny" Soper grew up in San Marino, California and graduated from Stanford University in 1946. She married her husband George Sterling in 1952 and moved to San Diego where she taught elementary school.

During her 50 years in San Diego, she enjoyed golfing with the Mission Bay "Happy Hackers, " serving as a Presbyterian Church deaconess, being a Cub Scout Den Mother, and volunteering with the Forest Home Thrift Shop. Mrs. Sterling also loved attending her son Clark's theater performances throughout the county, and traveling on Stanford Alumni cruises. An avid Padre Baseball fan, she attended home games and listened to them on the road. She was a loving mother, wife, and friend to many who will miss her. Mrs. Sterling is survived by her brothers Leon Soper Jr., and David Soper, her husband George Sterling and son Clark Sterling of Oakland.
