Plane Crashes Into River, Four Atom Scientists Killed

Kennewick, Washington, October 23 - a light plane crashed into the Columbia River in a dense fog today, killing four junior scientists from the Hanford, Washington, atomic energy plant.

Three bodies were recovered. The body of the fourth victim, Kenneth White, 25, Portland, Oregon, was believed to have been thrown from the plane and washed downstream.

The other victims were identified as Donald Shepard, 22, San Marino, California, the pilot; Leo Francis Peacock, 21, Joliet, Illinois, and Odell Edward Carson, 22, Tustin, California.

The four men had flown from here to Los Angeles Friday to attend a wedding. The plane crashed as the pilot sought to land through a thick fog.
