Virginia Shearon (Westvig)

Virginia Jean (Mrs. Marvin) Westvig, 59, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, died Sunday, February 11, 2001, at the Lake Region Skilled Nursing Facility.  She was born on November 4, 1941, in Altadena, California, the daughter of William and Mary E. "Beth" (Frantz) Shearon.  She grew up in Bakersfield, California and attended South Pasadena High School.  After graduation she worked for the telephone company until she married Marvin R. Westvig on February 18, 1962 in Bakersfield.

In 1970, the family moved to Fergus Falls where they purchased the Dairy Queen from Marvin's mother.  For 28 years, the couple owned and operated the Dairy Queen.  Mrs. Westvig was active in many activities at First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls, including the women's work and Wednesday Night Adventure Club for the kids.  She also started the cake program at the Dairy Queen and enjoyed decorating the cakes and getting to know people through the business.

Preceding her in death were her parents.  Survivors include her husband, Marvin R. Westvig; three children, Tracy Harthun of Crestview, Florida; Martin R. (Grace) Westvig of Sacramento, California; and Trina (Robert "Boomer") Moore of New Marshfield, Ohio; five grandchildren, Nicole, Breenne, and Amanda Harthun, and Andrew and Ryan Westvig; a great-grandson Tate Lill; two brothers, Richard L. (Michelle) Harris of Flagstaff, Arizona and C.W. (Brenda) Shearon of Bakersfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
