Janice Jones (Carl) - Class Of 1966

Janice Jones (Carl)

Janice Jones Carl, born July 25, 1948, passed away September 24, 2007.  She is survived by her children, Matthew and Erin Carl; mother, JoAnn Jones; sisters, Beverly Nuwer (SPHS '69) and Kristy Cole (SPHS '71); nieces, Shannon Cole, Jamie and Catherine Nuwer; and nephews Fletcher Cole, Charles and Stephen Nuwer.

Jan attended South Pasadena High School where she was a flag girl and homecoming finalist and rode the South Pasadena float in the 1966 Rose Parade.  She received her teaching credential from San Diego State.  For two years she taught elementary school in Guam.  Upon her return, she took a teaching position in Las Vegas, Nevada, later earning her masters degree in reading curriculum from UNLV.

Jan opened and ran the library at the new Aggie Roberts Elementary School in Henderson, Nevada until her retirement last year, when the yearbook was dedicated to her.  Her library was measurably enriched by the many additions and treasures she brought back from her travels.  Her genius for decorating and her personal warmth made the library a wonderful experience for her students and peers.

Jan loved to travel and visited places all over the world, including the Orient, the Greek Isles, the Mediterranean Riviera, Scotland, Ireland, England, Norway, Denmark, Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Russia, much of the United States and most recently, New Zealand.  She had a wonderful wit and filled those who loved her with laughter and happiness.  People enjoyed it wherever she went. When she became ill with cancer this year, she received an outpouring of love from her many friends.  The family thanks them for their kind support.
