Winnie Moran (Jasper) (1966)

It is December 21, 2011, and I hear O Holy Night on the radio while driving in my car. My thoughts went immediately to Linda and all the years we sang it together during the holiday season at Calvary Presbyterian Church in South Pasadena. Linda was one of my best friends throughout Junior and Senior High School, and we were inseparable those six years for Sunday School, Second Service, our very active youth group meetings and activities and church retreats. Her beautiful singing voice was well known then, and we often learned descants to sing together at church. I remember when singing folk songs was so popular in the sixties, and we all bought guitars to play together in youth group – but her skills went far beyond what most of us could attempt.

Some time ago I had a chance meeting with one of Linda’s cousins and had the opportunity to learn more about Linda’s life after we graduated and went our separate ways.  She traveled, explored the arts, and continued her love of music in performance. It made me smile to think of the joy these activities must have brought her.  I also learned that she gave birth to a son shortly before cancer took her life. I just hope that he has learned through family what a wonderful and talented mother he had.

I treasured Linda’s friendship and think of her often.
