Despondent over ill health, a 43-year-old Pasadena housewife committed suicide last night by swallowing 40 sleeping tablets, police said.

Police said the victim, Mrs. Georette Margaret Cooper, 151 Malcolm Drive, Pasadena, was dead on arrival at Huntington Memorial Hospital at 10:45 p.m.

Mrs. Cooper's husband, Elwin, told officers his wife had been ill for sometime and was worried about a forthcoming lung operation.
