Margaret Dowland (Corbin) - Class Of 1935

Margaret Dowland (Corbin)

Margaret D. Corbin, 91, passed away on October 3, 2008 at Marian Medical Center.  Margaret was born January 29, 1917 in Alhambra, California, one of three children of William and Margaret Dowland.  She was educated in public schools and in 1940 married Francis "Frank" Corbin.  They had a daughter, Anita, and son, Charles.

After 40 years in Alhambra, they moved to Running Springs, then to Hesperia for a short time.  In 1981 when Frank retired, they made their last move to Santa Maria.  Margaret quickly became a favorite among her acquaintances and easily developed strong, long-lasting friendships.  A skilled seamstress, she did quilting and all types of needlework, giving many of her works to family and friends.  She also will be remembered for her outstanding garden and flowers, her fruit pies, and of course, her daily walks with her beloved cocker spaniels.

Margaret was preceded in death by her brothers, Ed and Tom (SPHS '27), and by her husband Frank, who died in 2004.  She is survived by her daughter Anita Stiers of Stockton; son Charles of San Bernardino; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.
