Carol Folsom (Toney)

Carol Folsom Toney, age 81, passed away at home in Aptos, California on August 17, 2014, due to complications from a stroke. She was surrounded by family and by the ocean views that she so loved.

Carol was born in Colorado and grew up in San Marino. She attended Stanford University (Class of 1954) where she met her future husband, Jim Toney. They settled in Oakland where in addition to raising three sons, she was the teacher-in-charge of the Cyesis Program (school for pregnant girls) in inner-city Oakland. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and on the Board of Trustees of the Pacific School of Religion.

In 1992 Carol and Jim retired to a seaside home in Aptos. She continued to volunteer her time and skills to various organizations. Carol was predeceased by her husband of nearly 60 years. She will be greatly missed by her sons, Mike, Mark, and Jim; her four grandchildren and her sister, Margaret Folsom May (SPHS '46).
