Lillian Lorraine Goodnoe (Young) - Class Of 1934

Lillian Lorraine Goodnoe (Young)

Lillian Lorraine Goodnoe was born in Los Angeles (Eagle Rock) on April 9, 1916 and passed away at her home in Alhambra on August 26, 2014. Lorraine grew up in South Pasadena and graduated from South Pasadena-San Marino High School in 1934. She and her husband Joe Young, raised three daughters, all of whom graduated from SPHS:  Diane Young Norris '54, Donna Young DuBry '62, and Joan Young Macha '69.

Lorraine was very active in the Oneonta Congregational Church where she led craft groups and worked tirelessly in the church kitchen turning out wonderful meals for luncheons and dinners. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening (sharing beautiful flower arrangements from her own garden with everyone she knew), and sports (she was a member of the California Softball Team during World War II).  She was also a longtime member of the South Pasadena High School Alumni Association and served as Treasurer for many years on the Board of Directors.

Lorraine is predeceased by a brother, Glen, a sister, Dorothy Goodnoe Abrahams '36, and her husband Joe. She is survived by her three daughters, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Lorraine may have been 98 years old, but she was "forever 39".

Steve Ledder (1960)

I met Lorraine at the 2011 all SPHS Alumni Picnic in Garfield Park. I asked if she recalled any of the 5 Johnson sisters who went to SPHS in the 1930's. To my surprise she said, "Of course, I mostly can recall Lois Johnson". That made my day, as Lois Johnson later became Lois Ledder - my mother. I'll always remember that day. Rip, Lorraine.
