Vrai Vandiver (Jones) - Class Of 1950

Vrai Vandiver Jones, 81, died peacefully on June 10, 2013, after an extended illness.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Vera Vandiver.  She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald R. Jones; daughter, Laurie Freeman and husband Pat; son, Vince Jones and wife Veronica; and grandchildren, Brian, Nancy, and Cara Freeman and Michael and Avery Jones.

Vrai was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 16, 1932.  She grew up in San Marino, California and graduated from UCLA in 1954 with a degree in Art Education.  She married Don in 1954 and they shared the last 47 years in Houston, Texas.  She was a full-time wife and mother who did a wonderful job at that demanding task, raising two fine children and looking after her husband, who was often busy with his career as a geologist and petroleum engineer.  She was an accomplished artist and long-time member of WASH (water color Art Society of Houston).  She painted well in both watercolor and oil.

Vrai was a loving person who gave of herself to everyone.  She was kind and polite to everyone she met, and volunteered at the Pi Beta Phi Library at Texas Children's Hospital.  She was especially kind to lonely, older people.
