Joseph Henry Waldron - Class Of 1937

Joseph Henry 'Joe' Waldron, born March 14, 1919, passed away October 23, 2013 in Riverside, California. He was 94 years old. Joe attended Lincoln Park Elementary (now Arroyo Vista School), SPJHS, and then SPHS. He actually moved during his senior year to Long Beach, so was not able to graduate with his class, however, he considered himself a Tiger through and through.

Joe was a singer who often sang solos at assemblies at the junior high and was in the choir at the high school. He even shared the stage with Bill Beedle '37, who eventually became William Holden, the actor, at the junior high. Joe was very active in Scouting in South Pasadena, as was his father, Wally Waldron, and brother, Bill Waldron. Joe and his brother earned the honor of Eagle Scout. St. James Church was also a large part of his life, as it is where he sang with his beautiful tenor voice, and where he met his wife, Gertrude Mullen after the war.

Joe served in the Army in both World War II (in Italy and North Africa) and the Korean Conflict, earning the level of Major. Throughout his life he loved traveling the world with his wife, family, and friends. He retired in Riverside in a retirement community where he lived down the street from Bud Cook '37, another Tiger alum. Joe was a leader, creator, "make-it-happen" kind of guy who loved his years in South Pasadena and talked about them right up until the end.

Joe is survived by his daughters, Janet Waldron and Deborah (Carlos) Chacon; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Chacon and Scott Chacon.
