Barbara Anne Whomes (Woessner) - Class Of 1931

The small community of San Marino had its first reported homicide in 70 years when a 34-year-old man living with his parents, allegedly shot and killed his mother.

The dead woman was identified as Barbara Woessner, 60, wife of 1930s all-American USC track star, Arthur Woessner.  Authorities said the elder Woessner phoned the police department Saturday night, October 6, and told the dispatcher that his son Donelson, had shot his wife in the kitchen of their one-story home.  When they arrived, police found the woman's body lying with a single .38 caliber gunshot wound in the head.  Mrs. Woessner's son was arrested at the scene and later booked on suspicion of murder.
