Mardythe O'Mara Di Pirro passed away in the company of her loving family on December 13, 2015. She was 78. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, 'Mardy' graduated from the University of Southern California, where she was active in student government, serving as the Vice President of the Student body. As a 52-year resident of Westhampton Beach, she and her husband Charles Di Pirro were positive forces in the community.

Mardy was a trail blazer, serving as the first female Supervisor of Southampton Town. She played an integral role in creating arts, music, and recreation programs for the community, fighting over-development, integrating the public beaches, and tirelessly championing social issues such as equality, the environment, education, arts, and healthcare to better the lives of all residents. In her personal and professional life, Mardy exhibited a life-long dedication to community service. In addition to holding elected office, she served as: President of the New York Alliance of Arts Councils and Panelist for the New York State Council of the Arts in Albany; Executive Director of East End Arts and Humanities Council in Riverhead; Executive Director of Theater Three in Port Jefferson; Development Director of Dominican Sisters Family Health Service in Hampton Bays; joyful member of the Folk Group of Immaculate Conception Church in Quiogue; President of the Westhampton Beach School Board; Founder of the Westhampton Beach Recreation Program; Founder of the Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance Corp; Leader of the Southampton Town Democratic Party; and passionate supporter of numerous local charities.

Above all, Mardy loved her family. She is survived by Charles, husband of 55 years; son Charles of Hopewell, New Jersey; daughter Jean Marie of Buffalo, New York, son Kevin of Pacifica, California; daughter Carolann (Joe) Dederick of Westhampton; three grandchildren; brother Kevin O'Mara (SPHS '58) of Mission Viejo, California; and her extended family in California and New York. Mardy's other loves included playing guitar and cello, belting out the alto harmonies, telling stories, caring for animals, and celebrating her Irish-Welsh-Scottish heritage.
