Susan Kirkley (Darsey)

Susan Kirkley Darsey passed away at home on May 7, 2016, at 83 years old after a short battle with aggressive lung cancer. A third generation Californian, she was born on June 12, 1932 in Los Angeles and lived her childhood in South Pasadena. After a number of years in Alamogordo, New Mexico and Sierra Vista, Arizona, she returned to the Bay Area and moved to La Selva Beach, California 40 years ago.

Susan is survived by two sons, Stephen (Noi) Pearson of Watsonville, and Michael (Mary) Darsey of La Selva Beach, and a daughter, Sally Darsey of La Selva Beach, her companion and dear friend. Also surviving is a sister, Molly Kirkley and nephew of Sunnyvale; three step-sons; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Darsey in 1991; her parents Philip and Mildred Kirkley; and brother Philip Kirkley, Jr.

She loved Mexico, visiting Mazatlan for the last 40 years where she had many friends. The last 25 years she spent traveling worldwide. Duplicate bridge was a fond pastime and she was a member of the ACBL for 54 years. She enjoyed playing at the Santa Cruz Bridge Club for 34 years with many dear friends there. With her close friend Jane Basilico she spent 20 years traveling around the US, cities in Canada and Mexico attending bridge tournaments and sightseeing. She was a happy, positive person, and her cup was always at least half full (often with wine).
