Kathryn Mason (Raidy) - Class Of 1948

Kathryn Mason (Raidy)

Kathryn Mason Raidy of El Cajon, California, born March 30, 1931, passed away March 1, 2018 from complications of autonomic orthostatic hypotension. She was 86. She is survived by four children, 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and was pre-deceased by her husband Donald Raidy.

Mom spent many years as a single parent before meeting and marrying her second husband at her first job after her divorce. I guess this man (Donald Raidy) really loved her as he was taking on four kids all under 11 years old. They built a home and a restaurant in El Cajon in the mid-60s, then proceeded to build a home in Baja Malibu in Rosarito Beach. Upon graduation of three of their eldest kids from high school and with no sailing experience, bought a 42' wooden sailing yacht, Born Free. After preparing for two years, they sold the El Cajon house and restaurant and left San Diego on their yacht with Captain Don, First Mate Kathryn, crew mate John and ship's cat, Taco in September 1977 visiting Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Banks Islands, New Hebrides, New Caledonia, Australia, New Zealand, Rarotonga, French Polynesia, Marquesas, returning to San Diego in November 1980.

Mom lived a good life, and an even better life now. RIP MOM. Fly high, free as a bird, above your beloved ocean.
