Anne Glidden Root

September 28, 1929 - November 1, 2021

Anne was the beloved wife of Thatcher Wales Root. They were married for 56 years. Anne was the mother of Thatcher (Jennie) Root, Peter (Lynn) Root, and Sarah (David) Kaspers; loving grandmother of seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Anne grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and in San Marino, California. She attended South Pasadena High School and UC Berkeley where she was president of her sorority, Chi Omega. She enjoyed teaching elementary school in San Francisco and met her husband there. They moved to SE Michigan where they raised the family. She was an active volunteer at Kirk in the Hills Presbyterian Church in Bloomfield Hills and at Presbyterian Village. She was also active in the Birmingham Athletic Club and the Women's Village Club in Bloomfield Hills where she played bridge. She enjoyed golf with the family at Stoneycroft Hills Club in Bloomfield Hills. She liked to tell us how she broke 100 when she was younger. Anne was a Camp Fire Girl and Blue Bird troop leader for many years.

Anne spent many summer weekends in Port Austin at Broken Rocks, swimming, playing tennis, and riding her bike and had many friends. She loved to be by the water. She was an amazing baker of pies and desserts and would make them for dinner parties. Later in life Anne was an avid sports fan with a focus on golf (specifically Jordan Speith) and college football. She was very proud of her grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. She always was doing something interesting, kind, and thoughtful with her grandchildren.
