Bruce Stephens - Class Of 1973

Bruce Stephens

Bruce Stephens (August 18, 1955 - November 3, 2014), loving husband, father, brother, and friend (AKA Swami Bruce) passed away from his long battle with pancreatic cancer. He graduated from SPHS in 1973 and truly enjoyed seeing his classmates at the reunions and stayed in touch with a few close friends from those high school days. He was surrounded by love all his life, but especially in his final days.

Bruce is survived by his wife Amy, and children Carmen and Myles; and his sisters, Shelley Stephens '68, Stephanie Stephens '71, Sarah Stephens Green '78, and Suzanne Stephens Endacott '79.

Bruce Myles Stephens passed away peacefully at his home in Encinitas, California on November 3, 2014. Bruce attended South Pasadena schools from 6th grade through his graduation from South Pasadena High School in 1973.

He moved to North Coast San Diego County shortly after graduation, drawn to the fresh air, the good surfing and the cooler climate. There, he met and married his wife, Amy, and they raised two children, Carmen, age 30 and Myles, age 26. Bruce made his living in a variety of ways:  as a licensed massage therapist, yoga instructor, and most recently, performing weddings and helping couples write their vows. He was also a champion of organic gardening and composting and wrote poetry, serving as master of ceremonies for local poetry slams. He was surrounded by love all his life but was especially well-loved in his final days by his family and friends.

He leaves behind his wife and children and his siblings, Shelley Stephens '68, Stephanie Stephens '71, Sarah Green '78, and Suzanne Endacott '79.
